If you have an idea for a book manuscript, the series editors would love to chat with you at the Society of Christian Ethics Annual meeting. Look for times to meet in the book/break area that will be shared during the meeting.
Melissa Browning was a scholar, activist, creative, friend, community builder, encourager, teacher, and so much more. In April of 2021, Melissa's valiant fight with cancer ended. As she transitioned, she left many to mourn her physical absence, while also recognizing the enormous impact she had on so many people around the globe from the United States to Kenya and more.
Throughout her life and work as an ethicist who used ethnography as one of her primary methods, Melissa was committed to doing the work to tell the stories of people in ways that allowed others to really see them and their lived realities in ways that her words inspired the changes that needed to happen.
Series editor and former dissertation advisor, Aana Vigen notes that Melissa was her teacher in many areas as Melissa paved the way for others to follow. Series advisory board member Damaris Parsitau describes Melissa as epitomizing the spirit of Ubuntu and community, and admirably disruptive in her theologizing and social justice activism.
The T&T Clark Studies in Social Ethics, Ethnography, and Theologies series would not exist without Melissa. She served as one of the founding editors and helped bring together many members of the editorial and advisory board through her many connections.
We honor Melissa Browning's life, and we continue the work of this book series as a part of her legacy. Read more through her obituary.
